What a treat. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful. She was right when she said we couldn't go wrong. Everything we ordered was delicious. I got the trout with the crabs and Mac and cheese. He got the fried she in and catfish with a side of the jalapeño corn grits. For appetizer we got the stuffed mushrooms. It was so good. we could have split either entree and been sufficiently full. We each brought home half our dinners.

I am usually not one to write a negative review, as I have family that work in the service industry, but after today's experience I wanted to. For this special occasion we decided to make a special trip down, from Natchez, MS and up, from Metarie, LA to New Roads. We had made reservations for 1:00pm and were there at that time. We knew that it would be a busy day, and that we would have to wait, which we did. The first of several things to happen was that our reserved table was given to another group. We were slightly irritated, but were understanding. Another 15 minutes went by and we were finally seated. The server came by, took our drink order and they all came in a timely manner. We decided to go on and place our order, with all of the entrees, etc. At this point, everything to our knowledge was still available. We ordered sides, etc., apps, soup/salad and entree all at the same, and told the waitress to just spread them out over the course of the meal. In the meantime two other tables, of 5-7 people were seated after us, one about 10 minutes and the other about 20 minutes after. We were brought bread, but no plates and even after We received our soup/salad/apps we still had to ask for the plates. After that course we waited, and waited and waited, then the server came out and told us that they were out of Prime Rib, okay...ordered something else. Then we waited and waited and waited, by this time 1 of the 2 tables was served their entrees. We continued to wait with little attention from the server. She came out AGAIN to tell us that they had run out of mac and cheese and also caesar dressing for the salad, which happened to be one of our party's entire meal, we ordered another item again and continued to wait. Then the other table was served their entrees! What?!? Really?!? By the time we were all served our meal the table behind us was having their dessert and the other table was halfway into their entrees. And then to top it all off we ordered our dessert and after they described this one delicious dessert to us they come back and tell us that they were out of it too! I know that we came in halfway through the 11-3 service, but if you are close to being out of an entree, side, salad dressing, etc., please inform your servers. It was very frustrating to see entrees/sides, that you ordered, go to other tables that ordered after you, and then be told that the kitchen is out of that specific item. I am not sure what was going on today at Ma Mama's, but the excuse of it was a really busy day, yes we could see that it was a busy day, is not really the answer you should give a customer, with no "I am sorry, what can I do to help", etc. My family and I are in the service industry also and always try to do the right thing by our customer, even if it is a small gesture. It makes the customer feel valued, so when they leave they, they leave with a positive feeling. After paying the bill in full, we felt like we were brushed off and left not feeling valued.

Thanks to fellow Yelpers, we decided to try Ma Mama's for lunch during a day trip to Saint Francisville. Wow, we had THE best Turtle Soup, a very tasty crab and corn bisque that was a special of the day. Then the Oyster Combo, with both the Orleans and Rockerfeller oysters, was delicious. Service was very friendly altho pretty slow but we weren't in a rush so we enjoyed the experience and the quaint ambiance. Definitely hope to return for dinner one day.

Way too expensive for the food you are served! Mediocre at best. Got crawfish étouffée with catfish and doesn't come with anything at all on the side. Ordered a salad with grilled veggies on top and a bed of romaine with fajita veggies came out to the table with honey mustard on the side. Partner ordered shrimp and eggplant casserole and said it was fair at best. Ticket was $50.00 and I regret going. Service was good.

A local favorite. The food is excellent and has been for years. You can't go wrong with the veal or any of the seafood dishes. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The wait staff has varied over the years, but Angela is a constant and will take good care of you.

Decided to drive out from Baton Rouge to have some Cajun food. The food was amazing! The best I've had in Louisiana so far. We had our two toddlers with us and they were fussy, but there wasn't anyone in there for them to bother which was perfect. The service was great. The food was pricey, but it was worth it. We drove out because I had read online that they had fried pickles, but I guess they have taken them off of the menu. We had the craw-fish balls, which were delicious.

Nestled at the bottom floor of a quaint building in downtown new roads, ma mama's is a gem worthy of big city acclaim. The restaurant is located in a historic building with beautiful Cyprus woodwork. It is one of the top local recommended lunch and dinner restaurants in the area. The restaurant is located directly across from the marina and boat launch along False river. Street parking is plentiful and a parking lot is directly across the street. We arrived early for dinner and the restaurant was already packed so we sat at the bar. The staff was extremely pleasent and accomadating. In fact everyone in the restaurant helped our every need. We ended up ordering seafood pasta and fried oysters. Both dishes were very fresh and made perfectly. They came with yeast bread rolls that went very well with the seafood dishes. The best part was definitely dessert. Triple layer strawberry pound cake and the chocolate cake were both around a foot high. Also the heaping scoops of custordy bread pudding with some delightful sauce was truly a pleasure for my taste buds. We strongly recommend Ma Mama's next time you are down in point coupe parish. Come early and come hungry because the portions are huge and the food is delicious to the last bite!!!

If you want great, LA seaffod dishes, this is the place to go. Their specials are always spot on. Make sure you save room for dessert. Their cakes are second to none...and gigantic! My favorite is the hummingbird cake. Try to have Angie as your waitress...she is incredible.

Great service, great food, ample portions. The eggplant bayou teche is superb. Lots of crab and shrimp in a wonderful sauce served over lightly breaded eggplant. Outstanding. Veal parmesan was really good. The hummingbird cake was awesome and this is from a chocolate cake kind of guy. Don't miss this place its as good as it gets!

How can one not stop at a restaurant with an entree called the "Who Dat Pork Chop"? The 5-star YELP rating also got our attention, although it was based on only 5 other reviews. I ordered the baramondi dinner with broiled tomatoes and rice. My wife had the broiled shrimp dinner with side orders of sweet potato casserole and Jalapeño corn grits. I thought I had the best meal on the menu until I tasted the broiled shrimp - dat is how they do shrimp in Louisiana. If this restaurant was anywhere other than New Roads, LA we would have to have reservations to even get into the door and the prices would be significantly higher. Angela also waited on our table. She is the Night Manager and really knows the food - - - which we really appreciated when we peppered her with foodie questions.

As a lover of fine dining across the country I am pleased to say that Ma Mama's Kitchen in New Roads is still my favorite restaurant hands down. That being said, let's make one thing clear: If you're looking for an inexpensive special and service that will rush you in and out of the door as soon as possible, then this isn't the place for you. If, on the other hand, you are willing to drive, pay, and wait patiently for each course as you experience one of the gastronomical highlights of your life then definitely make the trip out to Ma Mama's. Out of all of my visits some of the most impressive dishes have been the stuffed mushrooms, the bleu cheese wedge salad (seriously, how do they make the dressing that creamy and delicious?!?), and the stuffed fish dishes. On one visit I wasn't in the mood for seafood and couldn't believe how amazing the veal parmesan was. Do yourself a favor: Find a bed and breakfast, plan a day, order every course and a bottle of wine -- simply take the time and enjoy Ma Mamas.

Ask for Angie I have been eating at this restaurant for most of my life. I have watched them mature and become one of the best places I have eaten in the United States. The atmosphere is as good as the food. the staff is A++ especially Angie. This is def southern Louisiana food at its finest with an elegant twist. I would suggest first timers go for the chicken Pointe Coupee, The portabella Mushroom, or Oyster Bienville/Rockefeller/combo. salad wedge or lobster bisque "best you ever had" as a starter anything that is on the special menu is probably awesome. I do find it quite pricey and the portions have def slimmed up in the past few years. this is why I cant give it 5 stars. but other than that get ready for a fine dinning experience in a quaint little town littered with historic homes and buildings. And plenty of antique shopping

Not many great restaurants in our area, but MA Mama's is an exception. Although most everything is good, my favorites are the fresh Caesar salad, Shrimp Tini and what I consider the best Oysters Rockefeller anywhere.

Stopped in here for brunch. Although there is no brunch menu and at first surprised by that, I am so pleased they did not. What an amazing place with amazing service. Our server hooked us up! Everything that we ordered she gave us the "insider" secrets as to how to make that dish just a little better. Although I do not think any of their dishes need any improvement, sherry for the soup or swapping shrimp for crab really just put the dishes over the top based on her recommendations. I would not have expected such a refined and high dining restaurant in this little town. To start: all the soups were phenomenal. The seafood gumbo won as the table favorite. Main dishes: the fried eggplant over etouffee, the seafood gratin, and avocado salad were the most memorable and enjoyed by the group. Not only were the flavors spot on, but it all tasted so fresh. It would be a shame to be in the town and not come here for a meal. Do not expect something cheap (food, flavor, and price). Come with an appetite, time to enjoy your meal, and good company so that you can share the dishes to taste more than just what you order. Also, save some room for one of their homemade deserts. We split a cheesecake but had to contemplate our option for an embarrassing amount of time since they all looked so darn good.

I come to New Roads several times a year. Ma Mama's is my favorite place to eat in New Roads. The food is made from scratch daily. It's hearty, delicious southern comfort food. Serving sizes are generous. The desserts are great also. Go hungry, you won't regret it.

Everyone is exactly right about this place. If you are ever in the area, you owe it to yourself to go. Best chicken parmesan I've ever had. My only complaint is they tend to have erratic hours, so half the time I really want to go there, they are closed. They are only open 5 days a week (I think they close on Sunday and Monday, may be wrong) and only during lunch and dinner hours. Last I was there, they closed at 2pm and re-opened at 5pm for dinner. I got there for a late lunch at 2:15. I was very disappointed. Regardless, they are one of those amazing privately owned businesses that is so good, I'm willing to plan around it.

It doesn't get any better than this. This is a must visit spot if you are visiting the New Roads / False River area. Don't miss it! Ask for Angie if you can.

Angie is a fantastic server. We had a party of 7. The orders were accurate. The ambience is wonderful & the art work is super interesting & makes for wonderful conversation pieces. All of the entrées were absolutely delicious. The sides are very generous portions so we each got something different & shared. I would definitely return here. I can't say enough about the exceptional quality of the food, service, & hospitality.

If I could put zero stars I would. This place turned us down with an hour left because it was slow!!! I'll give it one star because it smelled good!
